AoT president removed from panel

Airport board orders probe into parking lot

Airports of Thailand president Serirat Prasutanond has been replaced as chairman of the agency's revenue committee by permanent secretary for the interior Manit Watanasen.

Serirat: No authority to lease land

The AoT board said the change was intended to open the way for a planned investigation into alleged irregularities in a scheme to lease Suvarnabhumi airport's long-term parking lot.

Show me a crooked deal in Thailand and I can show you a crooked politician nearby. Newin's name seems to be the one these days I hear often.

I have never seen more than 10 cars parked in the long term parking lot.

Unfortunately, the stench is far more if one look at it from a national level. AOT will probably pale in all area when comapre.

As long as the airport is managed by Thai's it's going to be corrupt. They needs to bring in a foreign management team that come from another culture where bribes is stigmatized.

And if it happens...where will I park my car long-term? Have they thought about that or just saw the heaps of money...?

In the end, it all comes down to the buck. In this case, the baht. Whatever they can do to generate money, and pocket a whole heap for themselves in the process regardless the necessity for a long term parking lot which every airport must have as standard.

Gentlemen, the stench is not just coming from the parking but from all over the airport. Suvarnabhumi has been a cash cow for corrupt politicians since the '60's when it was first mooted, and it still is. The stench is coming from the parking, the taxis, the waste managment, the maintenance, security and pretty much everywhere. It needs a much bigger clean-up than this.

I would highly recommend to investigate into another airport parking deal. Until about a year ago the daily charge at Phuket Airport to park the car was Baht 40,- about one year ago it was sharply raised to Baht 200,- per day and the company which runs the car-park was changed. When asking why the prices were increased they tell because the company changed, I wonder who is behind the "new" company ? This deal smells fishy like a week old fish head.

"The AoT source said the agency was losing 150,000 baht a month because of the long-term parking lot, while the commercial development of the area would bring in monthly revenues of 2.2 million baht."

How does a parking lot lose money? A parking lot at an airport is like a license to print money.
