P.Thai MP: Cancel flood relief to Buri Ram

Pheu Thai party list MP Prompong Nopparit on Monday submitted a letter to Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit asking him to cancel a 77-million-baht flood relief programme for Buri Ram province initiated by the previous government.

The MP also asked the ministry to investigate the transparency of the  programme.

Mr Prompong said the cabinet under former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Feb 4 this year approved the Interior Ministry's proposal to divert a 77.5-million-baht fund originally intended to be paid to teachers for use instead by local government bodies in Buri Ram province for a flood relief programme.

At the time, Bhumjaithai Party leader Chavarat Charnveerakul was interior minister.

The diversion of the fund was irregular because there had been no flood damage in Buri Ram province, he said.

Mr Prompong said the Interior Ministry, therefore, should cancel this programme and should instead use the money to help the people currently suffering from flooding.

Public Health Minister Witthaya Buranasiri on Monday warned  of more flooding and potential landslides this week in northern and northeastern provinces.

Mr Witthaya said 23 provinces - Sukhothai, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Lop Buri, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Ubon Ratchathani, Chaiyaphum, Yasothon, Khon Kaen, Amnat Charoen, Chachoengsao, Nakhon Nayok and Prachin Buri - are still hit by floods.

Floods have affected more than 1.9 million people and damaged over 5.1 million rai of farmland, and 106 roads in 20 provinces are closed to all use.

The death toll from widespread flooding that have affected many provinces for nearly two months has increased to 158 with three people missing, he said.

Disc 7 - Like it or not the PTP does have the right to cancel any program set up by the Democrats just as the Democrats canceled programs by the PPP.

Disc 1 - Seems your last comment was correct.

"Unlike YS govt, AV govt is 100% corruption FREE. Or is it 100% FREE to corrupt, I might be confuse". Discussion # 5 :
oh yeah really ? So don't you mind to mind to give us serious references, sources and examples of the corruption of the YS government since it was on power since one month ? It is nice to write everything according to someone's own fantasy but to be serioulsy listen by others proves and examples are needed.

It is like failling to understand that Thailand is a PARLEMENTARY DEMOCRACY and has a PM elected through the parlementary system, not a president as you seem to beleive.
According to elementaries rules of the parlementary democratic system, the PT party is not the only party in the Yingluck government but the parties who are now part of the Yingluck government are : Pheua Thai 48.41 % of the votes + Chartthaipatana 2.79 % + Chart Pattana Peaua Pandin 1.52 % + Phalang Chon 0.55 % + Mahachon 0.41 % = 53.68 % are represented in Yinluck government !! Am I clear enough ? Is 53.68 more than 50 for you ?
Try to inform yourself what is the democratic system of Thailand and to understand it before giving lessons to others please.

I am curious, how is it that the Buriram floods last rainy season suddenly became non-floods. And how is the money provided for relief and restoration from the damage caused by those floods suddenly corruption money. I suppose the PTP feel they have a right to cancel any Democrat program from before and then divert those funds to the provinces that backed them.

    @bluebkk
You failed to notice that the corruption money over 77.5-million-baht was supposed to be paid as a flood relief programme in a region where there was no flood by the previous government and that the current government cancelled that!

Or maybe you want to say that the previous government has the right to be corrupt and that the current government has no right to fight corruption?

"how honest the previous government was"

Unlike YS govt, AV govt is 100% corruption FREE. Or is it 100% FREE to corrupt, I might be confuse.

I don't think that's there's going to be any of that 77m baht left after nearly eight months and a general election.
