Red shirt leader confronts protesters

A red-shirt leader from Surin province on Tuesday asked police to arrest the chairman of the transport organisation who led a protest against an increase in the price of gas that paralysed traffic on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road for several hours on Monday.

Theppanom Namlee, 54, chairman of the Friends of the Highway Users Club, filed a petition with the Crime Suppression Division, seeking the arrest of  Land Transport Federation of Thailand (LTFT) chairman Yoo Chienyuenyongpong on a charge of blocking the highway and provoking people to violate the law.

Mr Yoo led operators of about 200 gas-fuelled trucks and buses in a protest against the governmet's planned increases in the price of natural gas for vehicles (NGV) in front of the Energy Ministry. The protestors' parked vehicles occupied the frontage lane and part of the outgoing fast lanes of Vibhavadi Rangsit Road and caused traffic chaos.

This is really just a drop in the ocean for this government. Greece will default soon. China is slowing quickly. The bases of the election promises in Thailand have not been delivered. The inflation of fuel and food will eat up the 300 baht wage rise before it is implemented. The government is robbing Peter to pay Paul (robbing the central bank to give the finance ministry more borrowing capability) and the infrastructure of the country is becoming ever more dated.

I do wonder when the Thai people will realise they have been sold a Lemon. Then again the Europeans and Americans haven't realised it yet.

Off to work again for the vast majority today to make money they only need because apparently more money will solve all the problems in the world.

    > You couldn't make this up. Maybe next they will want to arrest non-red shirts for not being red shirts.

'Theppanom Namlee, 54, chairman of the Friends of the Highway Users Club....'

Obviously not chairman of 'Friends of BKK Roads Users Club'.

You could not make this stuff up. Amazing Thailand !!!

Oh my goodness! And how would Theppanom react if he saw people using a gas truck truck to illegally blockade the highway in a built up urban residential area (say, Din Daeng, as a random example), creating a very real fear that the valves on the tank could be opened and cause an explosion? Thankfully, that has hardly ever happened.

Anyway, as he got off on appeal for his rice protest over 10 years ago, isn’t it time he got over himself?

What kind of tests did this guy need to pass to become a red shirt leader?

  • Discussion 4 : 10/01/2012 at 06:56 PM4

However, with Mr Theppanom being a UDD leader, it was perfectly acceptable for UDD to hijack Bangkok in 2009 and 2010 with no action or complaints about an illegal occupation. He has the gall to scream double standards.

Oh the irony! You wouldn't dare make it up!
After paralysing the capital city for 2 months, this Red-Shirt buffoon has the audacity to call for the arrest of someone who paralysed a single road for several hours. I agree... arrest him. And then arrest the Red Shirt leader for the same offence multiplied by a hundred.
