A large hole was found in the middle of Bangkok's Rama IV Road on Sunday night, traffic police officer Sarayuth Junnawat said.
Pol Lt-Col Sarayuth said the cause of the five-metre wide and one-metre deep crater was not yet known.
He asked commuters to avoid using Rama IV Road under Thai-Belgium Bridge at this time, as Bangkok authorities had brought in machines to repair the road.
The road should be repaired by tomorrow morning (March 19), he added.
