The Airport Rail Link will charge a flat 20-baht promotional fare on its City Line between 11am and 2pm, starting on Sunday.

The discounted rate, valid until Dec 31, is aimed at attracting more passengers to use the system which is running at a loss.Normal fares for the City Line, which runs from the Phaya Thai station to Suvarnabhumi Airport, are between 15 and 45 baht depending on the distance.Passengers holding Student or Senior Smart Passes...

Why would anyone create an airport train service that does not make it easy for passengers with luggage?
Why would anyone create a "skytrain" service that does not connect to BTS.
It almost looks like it was designed to fail.

The problem for the Airport link is that once you take it from the airport to Downtown you end up in a location that is prone to traffic jams and if you want to go anywhere you still need to pay a taxi. If you have luggage then it becomes very inconvenient to handle it and get down to the street level with it to even find a cab. Additionally,If you are traveling with 3 people it as cheap to take the cab straight to your destination from the airport and with a lot less hassle.

The Airport Link will lose even more money as a consequence of Air Asia's transfers from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang. Monday will be telling. At least you should be able to sit down.

When will the loss making Airport Express Train be withdrawn? With only about two passengers a trip its losses must heavily dwarf those of the the City Link.

It should run 24 hours and it is too slow.

What a stupid idea! The airport link is not already cheaper and faster than any other transport from and into the city (at least in that area). What it does not have is a good service at the stations (at least not at Makkasan). With the same logic the authorities could lower the prices of the red busses in Bangkok to attract more foreigners. It won’t work, the price is not the problem, it’s the service!

Some times public transport has to run at a loss to prevent traffic congestion.Question is how many people use the system , is assumes most people travail to the airport from central Bangkok and that is not so.It also assumes people do not have more then 1 suitcase. How do people get to the stations walk from the hotel? If they are in a taxi new to Bangkok a taxi will take them right to there destination either the airport or hotel. The pick up points in the city are very limited unlike the Tube systems in many City's.For 200 tbht 4 pounds I can get a taxi door to door.Price is not the problem. Not much positive is there. The" experts" got it wrong.

Between 11 and 2 good deal I don't think.I certainly have not arrived or departed at times where this would be an advantage. It goes like this look at arrivals and look at departures and choose the least busy 2 hrs before and after.

If it was made properly in the first place and connected with the existing BTS Skytrain, then they wouldn't be running at a loss. Perhaps even staying open 24 hours, as most of the flights from Europe arrive in the very early morning; get a taxi from the Phaya Thai Station and oviod the Airport taxi scam & ques.
