Computer glitch opens BTS doors

Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc, the operator of BTS skytrain, said that the control room lost contact with a train, which then opened its doors too soon while approaching Siam Station on Tuesday morning.

Anat Arbhabhirama, director of the Bangkok Mass Transit System, said the computerised control room of the BTS lost connections with the train during a period of "malfunction" as it was approaching Siam station at 9.47am.

I think "Bullet" may be an appropriate name for the new train and,
may have the same end result !

Dis#6 - it is you who should read more carefully. The report clearly states that the driver took manual control and opened the doors before some cars had entered the platform. This is frightening - on one of the surely rare occasions a driver had to take control he messed up. How dumb can he be not to know he wasn't at his normal stopping position before opening the doors?

Use this as a warning for those who prefer to hang around the doors all the time.

The real question, was there a contingency plan in place and was it followed? Computers crash, that is just a fact of life, but without a plan B....

D2 read more carefully, it was a computer malfunction not operator error. Even the most technologically advanced transport can go wrong.
Don't think the work force of said company deserves such a damning indictment, If the company believes they can service to the standards who are we to judge, we're not experts

That's why there is a warning sign not to lean on the door. Somebody could have fallen out.

I understand the train wasn't moving at the time.
From what I heard, the train was stopped prematurely and several carriages were 'overhanging' the platform when the doors opened.

This time the BTS is fortunate no one fell of the train.

and this is a train traveling at a max speed of 80km/hr? that the Thai's have years of experience running. I dread to think of a bullet train run by these people..I am an expat in Laos and work with Thai contractors everyday and mark my words I don't trust them to service a car let alone run a bullet train...

This problem will easily be fixed by banning photography on the BTS.
