The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) plans to buy 50 locomotives to replace its ageing engines, some of which have been in service for almost half a century.

SRT governor Prapat Chongsanguan said Wednesday the railway agency has budgeted 6.5 billion baht for the purchase of 50 new locomotives to haul passenger trains after earlier acquiring 20 Chinese-made engines.
