The locomotive of a Bangkok-bound overnight train caught fire as it approached Lak Si area, near Don Mueang police station on Sunday morning. No injuries were reported.
Reports said the fire started in a motor on a compressor cooling fan. Firefighters sprayed chemical foam on the locomotive to extinguish the flames.
The train was taken away for maintenance after railway authorities replaced the damaged engine with a new one.
The train was running between Bangkok and the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani.
