No Thais on ill-fated AirAsia plane

No Thais were aboard AirAsia's flight QZ8501 that is missing en route from Surabaya, Indonesia's second largest city, to Singapore Sunday morning, Foreign Ministry spokesman Sek Wannamethee said.

Thai embassies in Indonesia and Singapore have confirmed the information, he said.

AirAsia stated on its Facebook page that there were 155 passengers on board: 138 adults, 16 children and one infant. Also on board were two pilots and five cabin crew (four flight attendants and one engineer).

By nationality, the 162 passengers and crew consisted of one person each from Singapore, Malaysia and France, three South Koreans and 156 Indonesians.

The airline stated that the Airbus A320-200 plane took off from Juanda International Airport in Surabaya (on the northern shore of eastern Java island) at 5.35am and lost contact with air traffic control at 7.24am local time.

The captain in command had a total of 6,100 flying hours and the first officer a total of 2,275 flying hours.

The aircraft had undergone its last scheduled maintenance on Nov 16.
