New road eases west traffic

The Transport Ministry on Friday opened a new road linking Ratchaphruek Road and Bangkok's western ring road to improve traffic flow on the western side of the Chao Phraya River.

Opening the 4.6-kilometre-long road, Transport Minister Prajin Juntong said the east-west link was a shortcut for motorists who travelled between either Ratchaphruek or Chaiyaphruek roads and the "western ring" known as Kanchanaphisek Road.

It was designed to relieve traffic on Ratchaphruek and Chaiyaphruek roads that served 150,000 vehicles and 50,000 vehicles, respectively, per day, the minister said.

The Rural Roads Department built the six-lane asphaltic concrete connector that cost 2.4 billion baht. The road includes two U-turn flyovers.
