Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport is ranked the world's fifth best for service by airline and airport ranking site Skytrax in surveys from mid 2014 to 2015, but only 47th overall among the world's top 100 airports.

Suvarnabhumi airport director Praphon Pattamakitsakul said Suvarnabhumi was voted the fifth best airport for service among airports handling 40-50 million people annually.

It was behind Incheon airport in South Korea, Kuala Lumpur airport in Malaysia, Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas airport in Spain and San Francisco airport in the United States.

Skytrax ranked Suvarnabhumi 10th in the best airport staff in Asia and 47th in the world's top 100 airports categories.

The rankings were based on the votes of about 13 million travellers at www.worldairportsurvey.com and phone interviews from last July to early this year.

Mr Prapon also said that sleepinginairports.net ranked Suvarnabhumi among the top 10 airports for sleeping for its space and facilities for travellers to rest while waiting for flights.
