Scoot, Singapore Airlines' long-haul low-cost subsidiary, will start serving heavy traffic from Singapore to Bangkok with its Boeing 787 Dreamliner wide-body jet in May, raising weekly flights on the city pair to 10 in July from seven now.

Replacing the ageing Boeing 777-200 now plying the route, Scoot will be the first budget airline to operate the new jet between the two cities.

Scoot said the new aircraft offered more comfortable cabin pressure, higher humidity and fresher air in the cabin, as well as inflight WiFi connectivity and in-seat power availability.

The introduction of Dreamliners for the Singapore-Bangkok route is part of Scoot's transition of its entire fleet from six Boeing 777-200s to the efficient Boeing 787s. Scoot took delivery of its first Dreamliner last month, and by August its entire fleet of 10 jets will be 787s.

The three extra weekly flights on the route — on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday — will start on July 8, supplementing the current daily frequencies.

Scoot is offering promotional fares to Bangkok with a one-way economy fare from Singapore only S$10 with a free return ticket. A business class seat starts at S$80. All fares are one-way excluding taxes and surcharges, with travel from July 8 to Oct 24.
