A new pier on Khlong Saen Saep will be built to link the canal's boat service with the Airport Rail Link, a Transport Ministry official said on Thursday.

Permanent secretary for transport Soithip Traisuth said construction of the pier will begin next month to connect the boat operation with the airport train serving Suvarnabhumi airport and Bangkok at Ramkhamhaeng station.

The Khlong Saen Saep boat service operates from 5.30am to 8.30pm on weekdays and to 7pm on weekends.

The pier is part of the ministry's plan to link boat services with other transport modes in Bangkok.

It plans to improve Bang Pho pier on the Chao Phraya River to provide a better connection for boat commuters with the Blue Line's future route from Bang Sue to Tha Phra. It will also upgrade Phra Nang Klao pier to link boat services with the Purple Line to operate from Bang Yai in Nonthaburi to Bang Sue in the future.
