Bangkok Airways in Cathay Pacific tie-up

Bangkok Airways and Cathay Pacific have strengthened their partnership with the roll-out of joint frequent flyer programmes.

Members of Bangkok Airways' FlyerBonus programme can now earn and redeem FlyerBonus points when flying on eligible subclasses of Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific and its subsidiary Dragonair.

Similarly, members of the Marco Polo Club and Asia Miles can receive and redeem Asia Miles when travelling on all eligible subclasses of Bangkok Airways.

The frequent flyer partnership is the second major cooperation between the two carriers, which have had a code-share agreement in place since November 2013.

In other news, Qatar Airways has confirmed the introduction of a second daily Airbus A380 service on its Doha-Bangkok route from Sept 16 in response to rising travel demand on the city-pair.

Currently, Qatar operates four daily flights between the two capitals, three of them by Boeing 777-300ER wide-body jet and one by the double-decker superjumbo A380.

The second A380 service will increase the airline's capacity on the route to 1,794 seats a day, up from 1,657 now. The daily frequency will remain at four.

Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines has named Wong Jing Kai as its new general manager for Thailand, succeeding Ong Cheow Teck, who returns to Singapore.

Mr Wong joined Singapore Airlines in 2006 and worked in various head-office departments before postings in China and the United Arab Emirates.

With the carrier's 37 weekly flights between Bangkok and Singapore and connections in Singapore to 99 cities in 35 countries (including SilkAir destinations), Mr Wong and the Bangkok office are committed to the continual development of the Thai market, Singapore Airlines said.
