The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration on Tuesday officially announced the route for the next phase of the BTS Silom line extension to serve commuters in Thon Buri.

The route was selected among three proposed at the BMA's second public hearing today.

The Silom line currently ends at Bang Wa station on Phetkasem-Ratchaphruek Road in western Bangkok.

The extended route would go north along Ratchaphruek Road, past Bang Waek-Charansanitwong Soi 13, a road linking Phran Nok to Phutthamonthon Sai 4, Boromratchonnanee Road, Kanchanaphisek Road and end near the State Railway of Thailand's Red Line (Bang Sue-Taling Chan) and Mass Rapid Transit's Orange Line (Taling Chan-Min Buri).

The route is 7.5km long and would have six stations. It would not require land appropriation.

The meeting was attended by about 100 people and representatives from various sectors and chaired by BMA's Traffic and Transport Office director Taweesak Lertprapan.

Mr Taweesak said most people attending the two hearings wanted construction of the Silom extension on Ratchaphruek Road to proceed as quickly as possible.

An environmental-impact assessment for the project is expected to take between six months and a year. The estimated cost for the additional route is 15 billion baht. The project is expected to be completed by 2018, according to Mr Taweesak.
