Lufthansa will deploy larger-capacity aircraft on its Bangkok-Frankfurt service while switching back flight departures to nighttime.

The changes are scheduled to take effect on Oct 25 as the German carrier gears up for increased travel during the airline's six-month winter schedule that takes effect towards the end of this month.

Lufthansa will replace the wide-body Airbus 340-300 currently used on the route with a Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet offering 30 more seats.

Lufthansa's B747-400 is configured with 67 seats in business class, 32 in premium economy and 272 in economy.

The airline's departure time from Suvarnabhumi airport will be changed to 11.50pm, arriving in Frankfurt the following morning at 5.45am.

Lufthansa introduced daytime departure at 12.10pm in March 2014 after offering night departures for years.

Dirk Grossmann, general manager for Thailand and the Mekong Subregion, said the new departure time was more attractive, as it gave passengers another whole day in Bangkok before they have to leave.

"Thailand is one of our key markets in Southeast Asia, and we're always looking for opportunities to improve and provide more options for our passengers as an airline group," he said.

For instance, in the new timetable Lufthansa and sister carrier Austrian Airlines operate night departures, while Swiss International Air Lines, another Lufthansa affiliate, offers day flights out of Bangkok.

Overall, the Lufthansa airline group offers both day and night flights every 12 hours to their European gateways, said Mr Grossmann.
