Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) has approved a bonus for staff worth 7.5 months' salary after it made a record 12.8 billion baht net profit in the first three quarters of fiscal year 2015.

Speaking after a meeting with the board of directors on Tuesday, AoT board chairman Prasong Poontaneat said the board had agreed to the bonus, an increase on last year's bonus worth 6.5 months' salary.

The company had an outstanding performance this year with the biggest net profit since it was established, Mr Prasong said.

Its airports had enjoyed passenger growth over the years, with a total of 106 million passengers passing through them this year, he added.

Between October 2014 and June 2015, the company recorded a 12.8 billion baht in net profit, while in fiscal year 2014 it made a 12 billion baht net profit, a source from AoT said.

There were good signs the company would earn more profit in the high season between November 2015 and February 2016, the source added.

The bonus would serve as an added incentive for employees, Mr Prasong said.

Some profit will be kept in the company's reserve fund to be spent on investment plans, he said, adding the company was investing more than 130 billion baht in ongoing airport expansions.

This included the second phase of Suvarnabhumi airport's expansion, costing about 55 billion baht.

AoT will also invest in a redesign of Don Mueang International Airport's passenger terminal buildings, an expansion of aircraft bays and renovation of an old warehouse building, Mr Prasong said.

Meanwhile, AoT officials are working on internal quality checks to ensure its airports and services measure up to international standards, another AoT source said.

The plans include security checks, air navigation facility inspections and safety and occupational health inspections, the source added.
