BMA proposing Bang Na-Suvarnabhumi light rail

BMA proposing Bang Na-Suvarnabhumi light rail

New bus service to Don Mueang airport

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will push for the construction of a light rail between Bang Na and Suvarnabhumi airport to provide improved convenience for travellers.

Bangkok deputy governor Amorn Kitchawengkul said the BMA had almost completed the environmental impact study for the project. It would in the near future propose the project to the cabinet for approval. The proposed route was not already included in the plan outlined by the Office of the Transport and Traffic Policy Planning.

He said a light rail service would help reduce traffic on the congested route and provide added convenience for people living in the Bang Na-Trat and Sukhumvit area, as well as people in Samut Prakan.

The BMA realised the significance of a fast and safe transport route to and from the airport. It would also help visitors explore the capital.

He also said Don Mueang airport is now served by the Airport LimoBus Express from Lumpini Park and Khao San Road. The fare is 150 baht. The new bus service was launched in late November. The buses leave every 30 minutes from the airport and every hour from Lumpini Park and Khao San Road.
