Travellers urged to arrive early

Don Mueang airport is urging passengers flying today and tomorrow to arrive at the airport three hours before their flights leave due to expected heavy traffic congestion.

Don Mueang airport director Petch Chancharoen said yesterday passengers for both domestic and overseas flights should arrive three hours before take-off since there would be many activities at the airport and nearby areas in preparation for Children's Day tomorrow.

Wing 6 Don Mueang's Royal Thai Air Force will be putting on exhibitions to keep people entertained, he added.

Shows will include aircraft displays at Wing 6 Don Muang and flight and aircraft operations, according to the director.

Authorities are preparing for the Children's Day events. Another team of officials has been assigned to handle the large crowds expected to turn out, Mr Petch said.

Passengers would face flight delays when the airport is being used for the air shows, he added.

Sarinee Sangprasit, Aeronautical Radio of Thailand president, said yesterday a total of 37 flights will be cancelled due to air force shows on Children's Day.

She said her staff are working closely with airlines using the airport to reschedule affected flights and adjust timetables to minimise flight delays.

Rehearsals today and aircraft shows tomorrow would affect flight operations at Don Mueang airport, Mr Petch said.

Passengers and people who intend to use Vibhavadi Rangsit Road should plan their trips carefully as severe traffic is expected en route to the airport, Mr Petch said.

He said there will be five shows on the day: Between 8.15am-9.05am, 9.50am-10.30am, 11.20am-11.50am, 12.40am-1.30pm, and 2.20pm-3pm.

Mr Petch urged motorists who plan to attend the event to park their vehicles at the parking space with a capacity of 250 spaces just south of the airport. A shuttle bus service from the parking lot will be provided, he added.
