The Commission for the Land Traffic Management agreed on Tuesday to let the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) run the extended Green Line.

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) will sign an agreement for the transfer of the two sections of the line with the BMA and Transport Ministry next month, MRTA governor Peerayudh Singpatanakul said after the meeting of the commission chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak.

The two sections run from Mor Chit to Khu Kot and from Bearing to Samut Prakan.

The next step after the agreement is signed next month is to set up a joint panel to settle assets and the construction cost that the BMA has to pay the MRTA in exchange for the takeover. Mr Peerayudh estimated that they could total about 60 billion baht.

The BMA has eagerly sought permission to take over the two sections from the MRTA citing the extension will connect with the BTS lines owned by the BMA.
