Pope urges Poles to 'welcome those fleeing war, hunger'

KRAKóW (POLAND) - Pope Francis urged Poland on Wednesday to welcome people fleeing conflict and hardship, chastising a right-wing government that has refused to share the burden during Europe's worst refugee crisis since World War II.

Pope Francis (C) is welcomed by Polish President Andrzej Duda (R) and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda (L) at Krakow's Wawel Castle on July 27, 2016

He called for "a spirit of readiness to welcome those fleeing from wars and hunger, and solidarity with those deprived of their fundamental rights, including the right to profess one's faith in freedom and safety," he said.
