WASHINGTON - The US economy grew modestly in the second quarter, according to a slight downward revision expected by analysts, the Commerce Department reported Friday.

Between April and June, gross domestic product -- the broad measure of economic output -- increased 1.1 percent following a weak 0.8 percent expansion in the first quarter. The previous second-quarter GDP estimate was 1.2 percent.
