The cabinet ordered an October 27-31 holiday for Bangkok and 20 other provinces affected by the kingdom's worst flooding in decades, amid warnings a high tide would surge up the capital's main river and escalate the disaster.

US and Thai authorities should have a "full and frank" discussion about the US offer of assistance.
On the one hand the Thai authories cannot afford to speak with more than one voice and on the other the US should guarantee that their offer of assistance is wholly humanitarian to a friendly ally with no strings attached.

Thai reluctance to accept outside help is understanable but, in view of the severity of the crisis, it needs to be overcome in an objective and rational manner.

Its surprising Bangkok lacks water vending machines, those are only found in low end apartments. Someone can make a nice profit from setting a few up around Bangkok now.
