Holders Lille reluctantly relinquished their grip on the French Cup after going down 2-1 at local rivals Valenciennes in the last 16 at a wintry Stade du Hainaut on Wednesday.

Lille had enjoyed the best of the first half but found themselves trailing in the 70th minute after Mathieu Dossevi stole in front of Nolan Roux to divert Dusan Djuric's left-wing free-kick past Lille goalkeeper Mickael Landreau.
