Iranians 'targeted Israeli diplomats'

Thai authorities charged two Iranians on Wednesday over an alleged bomb plot against Israeli diplomats, officials said, piling pressure on Teheran over accusations of a terror campaign against the Jewish state.

Authorities said they had laid criminal charges against two Iranian suspects accused of involvement in the three  blasts in central Bangkok yesterday.

One of the men -- named as 28-year-old Saeid Morati -- lost both legs after he hurled an explosive device at police while fleeing an earlier blast at a house in the capital. The satchel containing the bomb, which he threw at a police vehicle, bounced off another vehicle and exploded at his feet.

"Thai intelligence officials were not at fault as the bomb suspects arrived in Thailand unarmed and had built their weapons inside the country, he said."

And they were able to acquire military explosive in less than a week after arrival.....

"The bombs were not designed for large scale destruction. They had not been detonated by timers."

They had at least 4 kilos of C4 on hand, enough to set off a decently large ANFO or UN bomb.
Too bad all the Urea was confiscated a month earlier so they had to go to plan 'B'.
They also had that bag of new cellphones, why would they bother with timer ?
Oh, wait, there IS a timer function in my phone....

Notice how there is not a peep about last months discovery of 4 tons of bomb material for "export", people with fake passports and the links to this latest effort.

I would imagine some intrepid foreign reporters are working on connecting the dots now but Mr C thinks the good old mushroom strategy will keep the lid on and the tourists coming.

Amazed at ALL Gov/Pol/Army (same really), comments about this case (soi77) & before fertiliser/nitrate found in BKK. Not worth a WARNING from USA & UK, apart from being careful. For the future though, if Thai Gov keep making out there is no problem, there will be a PROBLEM. The terrorists will use this Country as an EASY fix to scare the World. Check everyone coming into Thailand CORRECTLY. Remember some of the World terrorists have good contacts a litle South of Bangkok.

    > So murdering diplomats is not terrorism.

  • Discussion 8 : 15/02/2012 at 09:23 PM8

After four Iranians are involved, every normal acting government would condemn Iran and that what happened as an act of aggression and terrorism against Thailand and their diplomats! Playing it down makes it more easy for this criminals in the future. But as it was wright for the government to burn down Bangkok, these bombings are maybe accepted to be a wright meassure to express a different opinion. So don't worry - just think different.

"The two suspects were charged with causing an illegal explosion and attempting to kill police officers and members of the public, Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul told reporters....We cannot say yet if it's a terrorist act," he said, "but it's similar to the assassination attempt against a diplomat in India"

Terrorism: The use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.

Will Surapong please define to the world what terrorism really is? By his own statements, it is terrorism. They actually hired this guy?

Being a member of the PC brigade I am worried that these two will get fair treatment and justice as one of them hasn't got a leg to stand on

I hope that whoever is in charge of running the country realize that there are more things to be done beside flood control that seem to be taking most of the time and energy of the present government. Safety and security should be on top of the list.
