Franklin seals backstroke double with record

American teenager Missy Franklin, heralding the new generation of US swimmers, clinched the backstroke double at the London Olympics with a 200m world record on Friday.

The bubbly 17-year-old American clocked 2min 04.06secs to better the previous world mark of 2:04.81, held by Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe.
