Africa's vanishing savannahs threaten lions: study

Africa's savannahs and the lions that roam there are disappearing at an alarming rate as ballooning human populations deprive the big cats of their natural habitat, a study released Tuesday showed.

A lion at the Entabeni Safari Conservancy in Limpopo, South Africa in July 2012. Africa's savannahs, and the lions that have found their home there, are disappearing at an alarming rate, plummeting two thirds over the past 50 years, a study has found.

About 75 percent of the continent's savannahs and two-thirds of the lion population have vanished over the past 50 years, according to researchers at Duke University in North Carolina.

    In southern Africa there are more than enough lions and if you ban lion hunting you are again penalising those who care for nature. What about human population control because thats the problem.
