Chelsea out, Celtic battle through

Chelsea made the wrong sort of history as they became the first holders to exit the Champions League at the group stage despite winning their final group game.

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres beats goalkeeper Jesper Hansen to score in the UEFA Champions League Group E match. Torres scored twice in a 6-1 win for the holders but it was not enough to stop them exiting the tournament.

Their 6-1 thumping of Danish minnows Nordsjaelland - their biggest Champions League win, having previously twice won 5-0 - proved pointless as Juventus won 1-0 and inflicted a rare home defeat on Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

Nice to see Celtic from the cheap league go through (I'm a Rangers fan), and Chelsea and Man. City from the greed league go out. It might be a more exciting competition, like a proper cup.
