Afghan spy chief wounded in fake peace attack

Afghanistan's intelligence chief was wounded in an assassination attempt by a fake Taliban peace envoy Thursday, just months after he took office, as Kabul grapples with the impending departure of NATO combat troops.

Afghan policemen stand guard near the site of a grenade attack at a spy agency guesthouse in Kabul, where the country's controversial intelligence chief was wounded in an assassination attempt.

Asadullah Khalid, who heads the National Directorate of Security (NDS), was the victim of a suicide attack by a visitor in a spy agency guesthouse in the upscale Kabul district of Taimani, security sources told AFP.
