LONDON: Former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher may have to stay in hospital over Christmas following a minor operation to remove a growth from her bladder.

The 87-year-old was "doing absolutely fine" after being admitted to hospital on Thursday, a spokeswoman said. Friends were quoted as saying that she would remain in hospital for a few days.
