France PM to visit Thailand Feb 4-5

French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault will make an official visit to Thailand on Feb 4 and 5 to further strengthen the ties between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry said.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra sent an invitation to Mr Ayrault after her visit to France back in June 2012.

Mr Ayrault will be the first French prime minister to visit Thailand in seven years. He planned to confirm the strategic partnership between the two countries established since 2004, the ministry said.

Mr Ayrault was appointed prime minister on May 16, 2012. He was previously leader of the French Socialist Party in the French National Assembly from June 12, 1997 to June 19, 2012.

Mr Ayrault and his ministers are known for their policies supporting the reduction in the retirement age from 62 to 60 years for some categories of workers, and cuts in ministerial salaries of up to 30%.
