Qantas profit climbs on Dreamliner cashback

Australia's Qantas banked compensation from Boeing for Dreamliner delays and slashed international losses on Thursday, reporting a surge in six-month net profit, but warned of turbulence ahead.

Qantas Airway CEO Alan Joyce, poses for a photo in front of a model of an Airbus A380 after the Australian flag carrier reported a doubling of first half net profit to Aus$111 million and the purchase of five new Boeing 737-800 aircraft, in Sydney, on February 21, 2013.

The flagship carrier also announced a fleet upgrade, after last year posting its first annual loss since privatisation in 1995 amid tough competition, industrial action and high fuel costs.
