Guatemala checking if Mexico drug lord killed

Guatemalan authorities said they had no proof that a clash between traffickers that was rumored to have killed Mexican drug cartel kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman had actually taken place.

Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman, aka El Chapo, is shown at La Palma prison, Mexico, July 10, 1993. Guatemalan authorities are investigating whether the Mexican drug cartel kingpin was killed in an armed clash near the Mexican border, the interior minister said.

Earlier officials said they were investigating whether Guzman, Mexico's most wanted man, had been killed in a shootout in a jungle area of the Peten department.
