Former eight-time Muay Thai world champion Ramon "The Diamond" Dekkers died after suffering a heart attack while riding a bicycle in the Netherlands on Wednesday. He was 43.

Reports said the Dutch kickboxer collapsed in a tunnel in the city of Breda, the Netherlands. Bystanders tried to revive him to no avail.

Dekkers started his professional fight career in 1986 and retired in 2006. He amassed a career record of 186 wins (95 knockouts and technical knockouts), 33 losses and and two draws.

Ramon was not only a diamond for the sport.
His code of conduct outside the ring made him an example for the whole contact sports indeed.

We lost a gentle giant!

Makes me think of Hardy Krueger, Post writer who wrote on Muay Thai. I wonder if anyone else remembers him.

I followed this guys career for years, he was a classy guy and a great fighter. Terribly sad to hear he has died so young. I last saw him fight in Melbourne Australia in the 90's. RIP.

I am not an expert in Muay Thai although i do watch from time to time.

It seems almost as if he managed to take out some of the art and inject more brute force into the fights.

Having said that there is a moment at 3:45 he had his opponent reeling and in the ropes, where he could have finished him off but, instead backed off.

A moment of sportsmanship?
