The alleged leader of the fatal gang-rape of a 23-year-old student on a bus in New Delhi in December has committed suicide, a jail official told AFP Monday, with media reports saying he hanged himself.

"Yes, he is dead," the official said in the control room of New Delhi's Tihar Jail when asked about Ram Singh, the man accused of leading the gang-rape which ignited street protests...

Tihar Prison is not well known for treating prisoners nicely.Maybe there was a helping hand .Guards and a chosen team of convicts have quite a free hand to harass inmates.
