WBC title puts Dominican shame to rest

The Dominican Republic ended a string of disappointing international results by capping an amazing undefeated run to beat Puerto Rico to the World Baseball Classic title.

Dominican Republic celebrate winning the World Baseball Classic after defeating Puerto Rico 3-0 on March 19, 2013 in San Francisco. Edwin Encarnacion belted a two-run double in the first and Samuel Deduno pitched five shutout innings.

"The Dominican Republic is one of the countries that produces the greatest number of baseball players," said manager Tony Pena Tuesday. "I had had enough of that shame of not having a trophy like this."
