Veolia profits slow to a trickle, shares sparkle

French utilities group Veolia Environnement reported a six-month profits slump owing to provisions and warned that its activities in China were slowing, in a results statement on Monday, but its shares firmed.

The group, which provides water and waste management services in many countries, held to its targets for this year with the emphasis on reducing costs and debt.
