N. Korea frees US vet as Biden visits DMZ

North Korea Saturday released a detained American veteran of the Korean War as US Vice President Joe Biden visited the world's last Cold War frontier. 

US citizen Merrill Newman reads a written apology on November 9, 2013, for his alleged crimes both as a tourist and during his participation in the Korean War, while in detention in Pyongyang, after he was arrested on 26 October, 2013

US officials said Merrill Newman, an 85-year-old from California, headed home after arriving in Beijing.
