EU, France troops pledge over Central Africa violence

The European Union and France pledged to sharply increase troop deployments to the Central African Republic on Friday as concern mounted over a horrific spiral of violence across the country.

Speaking at the United Nations, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said the bloc planned to double a previously agreed deployment of 500 troops.
