Arsenal's Wenger rings changes for Bayern clash

Arsene Wenger made six changes from the first leg for Arsenal's Champions League last 16 return clash at Bayern Munich on Tuesday with the Gunners facing a two-goal deficit.

Spain's Mikel Arteta formed a defensive midfield partnership with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain while Thomas Vermaelen came in for the injured Kieran Gibbs at left-back.

Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski replaced the suspended Wojceich Szczesny, who was sent off in the Gunners 2-0 defeat three weeks ago.

Germany's Lukas Podolski was named on the left wing with France striker Olivier Giroud in for Yaya Sanogo up front.

Bayern boss Pep Guardiola made three changes and switched the European champions' formation from the 4-1-4-1 used at the Emirates Stadium to the 4-2-3-1 system which won last season's final.

Germany star Bastian Schweinsteiger returned from injury alongside Thiago Alcantara in a new-look defensive midfield partnership.

France international Franck Ribery returned on the left wing in a powerful midfield line-up alongside Germany's Mario Goetze and Dutch winger Arjen Robben behind striker Mario Mandzukic.

Spain's Javi Martinez got the nod over Jerome Boateng at centre-back to partner Brazil's Dante.
