Drugmaker Shire rejects $46bn bid

Shire Pharmaceuticals rejected Friday a bid from US-based AbbVie, arguing that the offer worth 27 billion pounds (US$46 billion) "fundamentally" undervalued the group, in the latest blockbuster deal to hit the global drugs sector. 

Shire Pharmaceuticals says AbbVie offer undervalues the group.

The company, which is listed in London and New York but based in Dublin, also highlighed concerns over AbbVie's proposal to make Britain its home base for tax purposes.
