BAYREUTH (GERMANY) - The opening night Friday of the world-famous Bayreuth Festival, the month-long summer opera extravaganza dedicated to the works of Richard Wagner, was halted for nearly an hour due to a technical hitch.

A plastic sculpture of composer Richard Wagner by artist Ottmar Hoerl, is pictured on July 25, 2014 ahead of the opening of the Bayreuth festival in Bayreuth, Germany

Around 30 minutes into the performance, a piece of the staging came unstuck and fell off, forcing management to ask the audience to leave the building until the fault was fixed.
