Israel extends Gaza truce, but Hamas resumes rocket fire

Israel is extending a lull in its devastating Gaza offensive for another 24 hours, officials said, but Hamas resumed rocket fire and warned no ceasefire was valid without the withdrawal of Israeli tanks.

Israel's cabinet "approved the UN request regarding a humanitarian ceasefire to run until midnight (2100 GMT) Sunday", an Israeli government official told AFP on condition of anonymity late Saturday.
