Yemen cabinet resigns after militia siege of premier

SANAA - The Yemeni cabinet tendered its resignation to President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi on Thursday after a two-day siege of the prime minister by Shiite militiamen, a government source said.

Shiite Huthi militiamen wearing uniforms confiscated from the Yemeni army stand near a government tank in the area around the house of the country's president in the capital Sanaa, on January 22, 2015

"The government headed by Khalid Bahah has presented its resignation to the head of state," the source said.

The Huthi militia, who have controlled most of the capital since last September, had opened fire on Bahah's convoy on Monday and then laid siege to his residence, only allowing him to leave on Wednesday.
