Arquette wins best supporting actress

LOS ANGELES — Patricia Arquette wins the Oscar for best supporting actress Sunday for her portrayal of a struggling single mother in Boyhood.

"To every woman who gave birth to every taxpayer and citizen of his nation, we have fought for everyone else's equal rights," she says, accepting the award.

"It's our time to have wage equality for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America!"

Arquette, who was widely expected to win after a sweep of other major film prizes, bested competitors Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Laura Dern and Keira Knightley.

It is Arquette's first Academy Award.
