THAI RATH COLUMNISTMAE LOOKCHAN: The New Politics Party (NPP) must rethink its campaign strategy if it wants to be a force to be reckoned with in national politics.

The NPP did not win any seat in last Sunday's local elections in Bangkok. This is a serious blow to the newly-formed party, which had made a name for itself by campaigning against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra under the People's Alliance for Democracy.

In last Sunday's polls, a large number of NPP supporters voted for the Democrat Party because they were afraid the ruling party would be defeated by the opposition Puea Thai Party. As a result, none of the NPP candidates got elected to district and city councils. In fact, the Democrats did not need NPP votes to defeat Puea Thai. They have their own support base in Bangkok, and the outcome of Sunday's elections clearly reflected this. If this voting trend continues, I believe the Democrat Party will take the most seats in Bangkok again in the next general election, if it can maintain its good image.
