Sexual double standards

There are times when it is not just a non-issue, but it becomes your fault if you start to question it.

If you feel offended by your boss' obscene jokes, for example, it is because you lack a sense of humour. If you are uncomfortable with his suggestive look, lewd comment about your appearance, and starting to protest against his creepy touch, you are accused of making things up in your mind or making a mountain out of a molehill.

Now sexual harassment in the workplace is no longer tolerated, legally.

@discussion 7,"Harassment-free individuals only"? Today, Thailand is in turmoil because of few individuals including a woman. "Shame on you, BP readers". Why should I/we? I merely have expressed my freedom of expression, and I am proud of the fact that I have an opinion which is different from yours.

"very positive" Adam? Yeah we've all seen what comes from these laws: a man fancies a gal at work and would like to ask her out, so he chats her up by the coffee machine and gets a law suit slapped on him. Or a woman comes to work wearing a low-cut dress with her breasts half hanging out and a male co worker stares and also gets a law suit.

wow, look at the comments here! A woman who says the article doesn't make sense, another one who doesn't realize that "female only" often means "harassment-friendly individuals only", that women who offer sexual favours to climb the social ladder are just the other side of the same coin Sanitsuda was talking about. And that the fact that Sanitsuda has to repeatedly write about the same things only happens because these things never seem to change and she's among the very few who dare writing about it. These comments leave me with little or no hopes for Thailand. As I often wrote... shame on you, BP readers.

Good to see that sexist values continue, judging by these comments. This kind of legislation was passed in most Western countries decades ago, and has been very positive.

There was a reactionary conservative backlash from both men and women there too, but it is generally now regarded as a good step towards equality.

Of course women take advantage of men at times, but be honest - in which direction is most abuse occurring? Legislating against someone sleeping their way up the greasy pole would be a bit harder ....

When talking about "harsh punishment" its a joke in thai laws and society. Maybe the people creating these laws should practice what they preach first.

How can "looking" be classified as harassment?

Ahhh, same crap! How about the women who sleep with their bosses to climb up the ladder to achieve top posts? How about the advertisements saying out loud that 'female ONLY' for a particular position? (I hardly see ads saying 'male ONLY'). I have grown up reading your books. Just need to tell you this, write something new, Sanitsuda!

Innocent or quilty, accused and accuser know that people will not forget the accusation.

Why does the BKK Post pay this woman for her mindless opinion? This article doesn't even make sense.
