Ignorance of the law is no excuse, but education should be a priority

Last week I was invited to Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University to deliver a special lecture on the topic of law and society. For me, travelling upcountry and meeting people is a welcome reprieve from staying in the city and witnessing the incessant havoc sown by politicians.

The emphasis of my lecture was that the law is the chief instrument of national administration and that it must be fair to all. If the law is unfair, it will provoke public resistance and society as a whole will never be peaceful.

It is also imperative that the law be effectively enforced.

If ignorance of the law is no excuse, why are they not being prosecuted for selling fakes? The people mentionned can not be too bright as the government has made a show of destroying fakes periodically. Pirated goods cheat the creators of the original product. This includes Thai businesses.

How can you educate the youth of Thailand about the law when the law is so far removed from the truth that it is basically shallow and corrupted. Thailand needs social reform starting with actually following the laws that are meant to protect all people as opposed to their use of simply extorting MONEY. To end the double standard that trully exists, you would have to break the time honoured 'PATRONAGE SYSTEM' sytem in the country. Unfortunately the establishment will never let this happen as they are the ones inhibiting a real democracy emerging as they are profiting from what they themselves have created.

Yes indeed. To educate the public about the law.
