Thai Rath Comment

Whatever he does, ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra will be at the receiving end of criticism from his foes. When Thaksin stopped tweeting, his political opponents went berserk with allegations that certain pro-government figures were targeted by assassins, allegedly in the pay of anti-government elements. When Thaksin proposed a peaceful way out of the current political crisis, the ruling Democrat and Bhumjaithai parties responded by persuading some opposition Puea Thai Party members to defect to the government.

When a photo published in the media showed Thaksin shaking hands with South Africa's former president, Nelson Mandela, his critics claimed the photo had been ''made up'' so as to boost the ex-premier's popularity.

All this negative news about Thaksin has apparently been orchestrated to minimise the damage caused by PM Abhisit's close aide Sirichoke Sopha, and the New Politics Party which was beaten hands down in the recent local elections in Bangkok.
