Is the opposition Puea Thai Party really serious about making peace, to put an end to the country's worst political conflict once and for all?

Plodprasop Suraswadi, deputy leader of the Puea Thai Party. Is the peace offering his own initiative, or has the party endorsed it?

Plodprasop Suraswadi, the party's deputy leader, appeared to mean business when, out of the blue, he offered the olive branch to all feuding parties during a press conference at the party's head office last Thursday.

My overriding impression of Plodprasop Suraswadi is

a) his handling of Koh Chang eco-development plan which basically meant 'economic opportunities' for some rather than ecologically sustainable.

b) bully the local residents of Mae Hia in Chiang Mai into giving up land while he developed the controversial night safari.

In both instances he proved to be an insincere and mistrustful operator. I wouldn't put much faith in him as a peace maker.

The rudderless ship still has more deckhands than the Democrats! In the by-election PT got the smae percentage of the vote as in the last election. In the district council elections PT's seats dropped from 15 to 14. This is not exactly "firm testimony of the opposition's declining popularity in the capital."
